National Fire Safety & Emergency Training
Every Australian business has a legal obligation under Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws to ensure their staff are trained to respond to emergencies. Fireshift provides comprehensive, AS 3745-2010 compliant training designed to turn bystanders into a prepared first-response team.
Why Training is Mandatory
Under AS 3745-2010, there are strict intervals for skills retention that Fireshift helps you manage:
- General Occupants: Must receive emergency procedure training at least annually.
- Emergency Control Organisation (Wardens): Must undergo training every 6 months.
- First Attack Training: Practical use of extinguishers and blankets should be conducted every 2 years.
Our Training Modules
1. Fire Awareness & Theory
Before touching any equipment, we ensure your team understands the “why” behind fire safety.
- The Fire Triangle: Explaining the relationship between Heat, Fuel, and Oxygen.
- Fire Classifications: A deep dive into Classes A through F so staff don’t use the wrong agent (e.g., Water on an electrical fire).
- R.A.C.E & P.A.S.S: We teach the universal acronyms for emergency response:
- Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Extinguish.
- Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
2. First Attack Practical Training (Hands-On)
Fireshift brings the equipment to you for a practical, hands-on experience using your specific site risks as the context.
- Extinguisher Selection: Real-world scenarios where staff must choose between ABE Powder, CO2, or Wet Chemical units.
- Live/Simulated Discharge: We provide the opportunity for staff to actually discharge a unit to understand the weight, recoil, and “cloud” created by the agent.
- Fire Blanket Deployment: The correct technique for approaching a kitchen fire without burning the hands or face.
3. Warden & Chief Warden Training
For your designated “Fire Wardens”, we provide leadership-focused training:
- Evacuation Management: How to clear a floor, check “dead-ends” (like toilets), and manage the assembly point.
- Communication Systems: Instruction on using your specific EWIS (Emergency Warning Intercom System) or WIP (Warden Intercommunication Point) phones.
- Human Behaviour: Understanding how people react under stress and how to provide authoritative direction.
Key Dangers & Safety Protocols
Our training focuses heavily on the “No-Go” zones to ensure staff safety remains the priority:
- The “Two-Metre” Rule: Never attempt to fight a fire larger than yourself.
- Path of Retreat: Always keep your back to an exit. Fireshift teaches staff to never let the fire get between them and the door.
- Smoke Inhalation: Explaining that most fire-related fatalities are caused by toxic gas, not heat, emphasizing when to abandon the “First Attack” and evacuate.
Compliance Documentation
Following every training session, Fireshift provides:
- Certificate of Participation: For all attendees to prove individual competency.
- Training Log: A formal record for your AS 1851 and WHS audit trail.
- Site Assessment: A brief report on any equipment obstructed or signage issues noticed during the session.
