Ensuring Industrial Readiness: Routine Service of Fire Hydrants and Hose Reels to AS 1851
High-Flow Fire Hydrant and Hose Reel Audits. For industrial sites with high-piled storage or hazardous materials, fire hydrants and hose reels are the primary tools for first-responders and onsite safety teams. However, in harsh coastal environments from the Tweed Heads NSW to the Sunshine Coast, these assets are prone to corrosion, valve seizures, and pressure loss. FIRESHIFT specialises in the Routine Service (Inspection and Testing) of these systems, ensuring they are ready for immediate deployment in accordance with AS 1851-2012 Sections 4 and 9.
The Cert II Technical Scope While major repairs to fire mains often require a licensed plumber, the Routine Service—the most frequent and critical compliance requirement—is within the scope of a qualified fire protection technician. Our service includes:
- Six-Monthly Visual Inspections: Checking for physical damage, accessibility, and ensuring that all hydrant outlets are fitted with correct caps and clear of obstructions.
- Annual Functional Testing: For fire hose reels, we perform a full “run-out” test to check the hose integrity, nozzle flow, and the operation of the stop-cock. For hydrants, we verify the operation of the isolating valves and check for leaks under static pressure.
- Survey of Signage and Clearance: Ensuring all equipment is clearly marked and that “Hard Stand” areas for fire brigade boosters remain unobstructed.
