Industrial Fire Safety: Managing High-Piled Storage Compliance
In the industrial corridors of SE QLD, Sydney, Tweed Heads NSW, Logan and Ipswich, warehouse operations often involve high-piled storage. For facility managers, compliance isn’t just about having equipment on-site; it’s about ensuring that your fire protection assets—specifically extinguishers, hydrants, and hose reels—are serviced according to AS 1851-2012 to handle the specific fuel loads of your warehouse.
Routine Service Requirements As fire safety technicians, we focus on the Routine Service of essential fire assets to ensure they are accessible and functional. Key areas of focus for industrial sites include:
- Fire Extinguisher Maintenance: Ensuring the correct agent (Abe, CO2, or Foam) is matched to the specific hazards (e.g., electrical rooms vs. pallet storage) and serviced six-monthly.
- Fire Hose Reels: Checking for leaks, ensuring the nozzle is operational, and verifying the hose hasn’t perished—essential for the large floor plates of Logan warehouses.
- Fire Hydrant & Booster Access: Verifying that hydrants are unobstructed and that boosters are clearly identified and accessible for the New South Wales Fire Department.
- Clearance Compliance: Visually inspecting that stock is not stacked within 500mm of sprinkler heads, which is a common technical defect in high-piled storage environments.
The Role of the Technician Our role is to perform the scheduled testing that forms the basis of your Annual Fire Safety Statement. By identifying defects during routine 6-monthly or annual visits, we help you rectify issues before they become an insurance or safety liability.
